The Wimbledon Centre Court Shopping complex is right next to the Wimbledon Station. To find it on Google Maps type in “Wimbledon Centre Court Shopping Centre”. Nearby are many useful shops and amenities. A good reference point is where two large bronze statues stand at the top of the steps leading into the Centre.
Places in Relation to Wimbledon Centre Court Shopping Centre
Here is how to find some useful places nearby. Start by standing next to the two statues and face Burger King which is across the street.
- To your right and slightly behind you is an entrance to Wimbledon Station. This is not the main entrance. The main entrance and ticket hall is about 150 yards to your right along the street. Taxis are available at the side main Wimbledon Station entrance. In the ticket hall you can buy Oyster Travel Cards. Find out about them. Ask for one that applies to trains and buses. The cards can be topped up. Make a note of when the card expires – the ticket office can tell you.
- About 40 yards to your left is a bus stop with under cover shelters for waiting passengers. At this bus stop you can catch buses no. 57, 93, 131, 200 and 219 (signage as at 11 January 2011). The bus stop has clear diagrams showing where the various buses stop. The shelter also has these diagrams. You enter the bus at the side nearest the driver and exit about half way down the bus. Don’t forget to press the button to tell the driver to stop at your bus stop.
Excellent Shops are Close by to the Centre
- About 80 yards to your left is a very friendly branch of Barclays Bank. To the right of Barclays is a Jessop photography shop. Across the road is Currys PC World. Other Banks are not too far away. Across the road to the left is Uniqlo.
- About 40 to 60 yards to your right are cellphone shops where you can buy SIM cards and time.
- Excellent fish and chips is less that a minute away. Cross the road to Burger King. Walk past Burger King with Burger King on your left. Turn the corner. Pass a pub. Pass an interesting shop called Subway. Keep going and you will see Broadway Place Fish and Chips. The service is friendly and the fish and chips very tasty. All sorts of fish are served. You can eat there or take away. It is not surprising that the shop has been in business 30 years.
The Wimbledon Centre Court Shopping Center Itself
The Centre Court Shopping Centre itself has many excellent shops and merits an article dedicated to it alone. These shops include a Tesco, Mothercare, Marks and Spencer Simply Food and Debbenhams. There is also a large Boots Pharmacy with helpful staff. Apple products are also for sale in the Centre. On the top floor of the complex is a restaurant and clean public toilets. You can get to the top floor by escalator or lift.
A visit to the Wimbledon Centre Court Shopping Centre is well worth the effort because of the wide variety of excellent shops and amenities. There are also many old pubs within easy walking distance. The Wimbledon Police Station with helpful staff is about a minute from the Centre down Queen’s Road. Remember to cross the roads using the green man.
